House Amenities
Main Floor Kitchen is fully stocked with plates, cups, wine glasses, mugs, silverware, knives, strainers, pots, pans, cookie sheets, coffee maker(Drip) and Keurig, measuring spoons, measuring cups, crockpot, blender, full size oven, full size fridge, microwave, dishwasher. Additional Small fridge on screened porch, children's crib now available.
What's Included:
All our cabins come with all linens we do recommend guest bring extra pool towels for both visiting the campground (huge swimming holes down there!) and the community pool for when it is open. We also provide one roll of paper towel and one roll of toilet paper per bathroom for each guest. A small amount of cleaning supplies as well as a few trash bags, dish detergent, laundry detergent and a sponge are also provided. Baby gate.

Location
This house is located in Powder Horn Mountain in Deep Gap, NC. (267 Buckshot Rd, Deep Gap) We are about 20 mins to Appalachian State and main street in Boone but only about 13 miles. We are about 18 -25 miles to all the ski resorts or about 35 mins. Blowing Rock and Banner Elk are each about 35-40 mins from our front gate. The Blue Ridge Parkway is about 7 miles away with an access point at the top of Elk Creek Rd on old 421. The closest grocery store is Food Lion located at the intersection of 421 and Old 421 across from Tractor Supply. There is RV camping and horseback riding nearby at Leatherwood Mountain Resort. Elk Creek is just outside the front gate of Powder Horn and is a state stocked trout stream this is an angler's paradise make sure you get your fishing license, but you will find it is some of the best fishing around! Local wineries and breweries abound including Appalachian Mountain Brewery, Boonshine Brewing, Grandfather Vineyards, Banner Elk Winery and so many others. So much to do!!!! Make sure to also check out the Lil' Hidden Creek Gem mine located about 1 mile past the back gate of Powder Horn. Call ahead and they will get mining buckets ready for the little ones!
Side Notes
Firewood for the fireplace can be ordered for $10 per bundle prior to arrival. We also have a local Doula whose information is included in your check in instructions. If you need cribs, highchairs, or other kid items including baby monitors, baby gates etc she is a great resource and will deliver directly to the house prior to your arrival. Grocery delivery is also available for a flat $35 charge. (based on availability) We do recommend getting groceries prior to getting to your house either in Boone, Lenoir or North Wilkesboro. If you do want to do grocery delivery we recommend Lowes Foods at New Market Center in Boone.
Community
Powder Horn Mountain is a private gated community. (gate code provided on pdf in email after you book) All guests have free access to the community pool seasonally open May to September. Fitness center at the clubhouse, playground, fishing in three community ponds,(please bring your fishing poles!) No permit is necessary in the community but if you want to fish the state stocked Elk Creek you will need one. Miles of community hiking trails with well marked signage and a map in your binder. Make sure you check out the campground that sits on laurel creek and is the perfect spot for a night time fire pit and s'mores or a game of horseshoes. Maybe an afternoon picnic! There is a tennis court and half basketball court and new in 2022 a small 6 station frisbee golf course that you can access at the post office (bring your frisbees!)

  We had a fantastic experience at Lucky Dog Lodge. So fantastic was our experience that I'm hesitant to talk about it here because I want to make sure I can come back next year. The house was very clean, comfortable, charming and from what I could see was possibly the best mountain view of all the houses. Watching the sun come up from the back upper deck with a hot cup of coffee was one of the most epiphanous of experiences (is that a word?). Two things that need to be mentioned when staying at any mountain cabin: 1) it's going to be a bit rustic. Expect the unexpected. This is a good thing. Bring some bottled water if you're fussy about water. This is not a luxury hotel in NYC. Bring sturdy hiking shoes. Get out and explore the many local paths and mountain streams and waterfalls. Expect to see some wildlife... birds, eagles, deer, maybe a bear or two, frogs and snakes, etc.... 2. Leave your electronic devices at home. The wi-fi was actually very good in our cabin, which is handy for phones since cell signals are weak in the mountains, but take a break from the devices. I'm seeing a lot of complaints about wi-fi. Seriously? Get out and explore! That being said, all in all we had a wonderful experience. Our property manager was extremely helpful and answered many questions before we arrived. There are also wonderful local businesses like (plug ->) Daybreak Homestead! They will delivery beautiful flowers and the best BACON ever! We had three hungry college age boys with us in the cabin so this came in handy. If you want to get away from it all, this is the place to go.

  We visited here the first week of June Sunday - Saturday. Myself, spouse, daughter, son in law and 2 grandchildren and our labradoodle. Our week was perfect. The weather was beautiful and on a couple of afternoons the rain came and was just so relaxing on powder mountain.
  We loved everything about our stay. The cabin was so clean and Susan was very helpful even when I didn't follow her instructions. (Be sure to screen shot your rental cades).
  We were way up the mountain so we know to be prepared with our grocery and we were. We went into Blowing Rock 1 day and took the grands to Tweetsie Railroad 1 day. Other than that we explored Powder Horn and enjoyed the pool, hiking and the creeks. We had so much fun and I can't wait until we can come back for another week.

  It rained the entire time we stayed and it was still fantastic at Lucky a dog Lodge. The mountain cabin is cozy with a gorgeous Mountain View and a screened in porch off the bottom floor. The beds are quite comfy, we cooked all of our meals and ate in the cabin. We ventured out to the Still hiking trail which was challenging yet doable for two adults, two dogs, an 11 year old, and 8 year old. We went down to the campground which was simply beautiful. We will be back to Powder Horn Mountain and when we do, we’ll stay at Lucky Dog Lodge!

  Lovely views as described and comfortable furnishings. Very clean except for overhead fans especially in the living area. We only had a fire one night due to excessive smoke from chimney back draft. We were afraid to use it thereafter so all the wood we hauled up was for naught. Flew was completely open and after a good look the next morning looks as if the inside of chimney is in dire need of a thorough cleaning by a chimney sweep! In my opinion the kitchen lighting needs to be addressed by owner...mighty dark at night. It is a beautiful location and if these issues were addressed it would only be better!

  We stayed here during Merlefest so mostly used the house for sleeping. The deck is fantastic with a beautiful view. Furnishings were comfortable and attractive. Stove knobs have no numbers or letters so it was frustrating trying to use the stove.Luckily we weren't cooking much so that and the lack of a dish washer didn't effect us. Upstairs shower definitely needs a new/different shower head. I would stay again for the same purpose.

The view was amazing and I never tired of sitting on the balcony watching the birds and the sky. It was a huge plus that they allowed us to bring our dog. The cabin is spacious and had more than enough room for our family of four. Powder Horn Mountain is packed with amenities- the pool was great, we hiked out to the old still- our kids had a blast using the ropes and ladders, we also hiked to a few swimming holes, and secured a camping spot for the day. We cannot wait to return!

  Amazing mountain view! Pictures alone don't do justice. I'm not sure which one I loved more--the morning view or the evening view of the mountains from the balcony. I spent much of my day on the balcony just looking out or working from home on the balcony dining table and balcony bar top table. Perfect spot for a quiet mountain escape. In case the weather is not ideal, you can also soak in the views from the lower balcony which is covered and screened in. This place also had a modern kitchen/appliances and plenty of space inside. The mountain/community also has great trails for hiking which are safe and marked. I'd love to come back!

  It was a well maintained and clean vacation cabin in the perfect location. With the size (its small) of the cabin on main floor, I wish there were less things already there. The kitchen cabinets were packed with so many things and in disarray. My mom and I spent a good hour reorganizing so we could actually find stuff. The selling point for the place was the outdoor patio where we ate most of our meals. Its pretty warm in the upstairs bedroom but comfortable. Also, we went into the basement maybe a couple times and didn't love the vibe. Felt musty and outdoor patio was dusty. However that seems like all negatives, but honestly is was a cozy place where we were most of the time except for hiking. The trails here were awesome and helped me fall in love with nature. I mean it was remote but we wanted remote. Beautiful porch and great place. Oh the internet was not great so we all got a good chance to disconnect lol.

  This was a wonderfully-equipment cabin, with books, games, a full kitchen and multiple bedrooms and baths. Our family of five loved it. Probably our favorite aspects were the piano and guitar and the screened-in porch with a hammock. Also lovely to be able to be so close to so many trails and be able to use the pool and clubhouse.
