This charming mountain cabin is tucked inside the private gated community of Powder Horn Mountain, offering a peaceful wooded setting and access to an incredible array of community amenities. Whether you're planning a quiet weekend getaway or a longer stay in the High Country, this home provides comfort, convenience, and mountain charm.

Sleeping Arrangements & Layout
The primary bedroom features a King bed w private bath and beautiful mountain views, creating a relaxing retreat after a day of exploring. The second bedroom is located at the front of the home and includes one twin bed and one set of bunk beds, making it a great space for children or additional guests.
The home also includes a second full bathroom and a comfortable living area centered around a wood-burning fireplace. Please bring your own firewood for use during your stay.

Kitchen & Home Features
The kitchen is well stocked with a generous selection of cookware, utensils, and essentials for preparing meals at home. All linens and bath towels are provided for your convenience. This cabin is equipped with high-speed fiber internet, making it suitable for streaming or remote work.

Powder Horn Mountain is a private gated community offering a wide variety of amenities for guests.
Guests have free access to the seasonal community pool, typically open from late May through early September. Additional amenities include a fitness center and game room—both located in the clubhouse—a playground, paddle boats, tennis and pickle ball court, basketball goal, disc golf course, and miles of well-marked hiking trails.

Fishing is available in three community ponds as well as in Laurel Creek and Elk Creek. Fishing in either creek requires a valid North Carolina fishing license.

The community also features a campground along Laurel Creek that is ideal for an evening fire, s’mores, or a game of horseshoes. Many guests find there is so much to enjoy within Powder Horn Mountain that they rarely need to leave during their stay.

Located in Deep Gap, North Carolina within Powder Horn Mountain, this home offers a serene mountain setting while remaining convenient to area attractions. Boone and Appalachian State University are approximately 20–25 minutes away. Blowing Rock and Banner Elk are about 40 minutes away, and the Blue Ridge Parkway is just 9 miles from the community entrance.

The High Country offers year-round adventure, from skiing and snowboarding in winter to hiking, tubing, fishing, shopping, and dining throughout the warmer months. You can also enjoy guided horseback riding and scenic trail experiences at Leatherwood Mountains Resort, located just 15 minutes away.

The home is an easy drive from Charlotte, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and Raleigh, making it an ideal mountain escape without extensive travel time.

Additional Information
Linens and bath towels are provided. Beach towels are provided during the summer. We recommend picking up groceries before arrival—many guests find they don’t want to leave once settled in the cabin and community.

Dogs are welcome. The pet fee is $50 per pet and is charged separately after booking. Please note all pets at the time of reservation.

  Had to cut trip short due to Hurricane Helene and was so disappointed to leave. Cute cabin in a beautiful neighborhood. Took us about 30 minutes to Boone or Blowing Rock and the entrance to parkway was nearby. The management company was very responsive and gracious. So sorry the hurricane has affected their area but am sure they will be back on track soon.

  We're Airbnb hosts ourselves, and have enjoyed marvelous stays at numerous Airbnb bookings.
  That said, 30 min after we arrived, unpacked the car and settled on the screened porch, we knew that Horseshoe Haven (and the entire Powderhorn community) was exactly what we had been looking for, and we only wished we'd booked a longer stay. We also didn't realize just how much we really needed the down time, to truly be away from it all, until we looked at each other over our coffee on the porch our last day, and almost in unison said, "how 'bout we just stay put again today (instead of making the short drive to town as we'd planned). Horseshoe Haven was very clean, comfy, so quiet and peaceful, and well stocked with everything we needed for our stay. It has been years since we've been able to slow down enough in the evening to do something as simple, engaging and pleasant as playing cards or a board game, which we took turns choosing each evening for our nightly porch sitting - perfect endings to our fabulously leisurely days. Thank you, Susan, for sharing your haven with us.

  Cabin was very cozy. Pictures and items that were described in the listing were accurate. We did have an issue with the Wi-Fi on our first night, but it seemed to fix itself the next day. The neighbors and the gate attendant were all incredibly friendly. We never used the pool house, so cannot speak to that, but the waking paths were awesome. Would recommend for a nice, quiet stay.

  My husband and I rented this property for one week in order to explore the surrounding area including Boone, Blowing Rock, Mt Airy, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. It takes about 25 minutes to get from the property to the Blue Ridge Parkway. The property is among other homes on Powder Mountain but still felt secluded. The most impressive thing about this property is the Property Manager and the Maintenance Personnel. On our second day (a Saturday) after being gone all day sightseeing we returned around 5 pm to a major maintenance issue requiring immediate attention. I called the Property Manager (Moonlight Property Management) and she immediately sent the Maintenance Personnel over to assess the situation and determine how to address/minimize the damage. The Property Manager arrived shortly after as well. Everyone worked quickly to minimize damage and offered to move us to a different property. We elected to stay and the Property Manager made sure we had what we needed to be comfortable. On Sunday and Monday we were kept updated on the repair schedule. Everything was back in working order by Monday afternoon. Kudos to the Property Manager and Maintenance Personnel for their immediate response and quick resolution of the issue.

  I rented Horseshoe Haven for my daughter and grandson. I wanted a cozy place within walking distance from our home so we could stay Covid safe. We spent time outdoors during the day and at night my daughter and grandson nestled into the house. They loved that it was small and intimate - no huge, unnecessary spaces - my daughter would watch the sunrise from the enclosed deck/porch. They made fires morning and night and throughly enjoyed the house. This will be our go-to rental when advising family where to stay. Plus, Susan Cheney is always accessible and a joy!
